Here is what you will need to serve 2.
For the French toast
- 1 Egg
- 40ml (1/8 Cup + 1 tbsp) Milk
- Pinch of Salt
- 2 Thick Slices of White Bread
- Knob of Butter, for frying
For the toppings
- 2x Eggs

French toast instructions
First heat a large frying pan over a medium heat. Then in a shallow dish, beat together the egg (x 1), milk (40ml | 1/8 Cup + 1 tbsp) and salt (pinch).
Lay both slices of bread (2 x thick slices of white bread) in the egg mixture and allow to soak for a few seconds, then turn them over and repeat for the other side.
Then drop a knob of butter into the hot frying pan, swill around the pan until melted and add both slices of bread into the pan. (If both won’t fit, cook one at a time.)
Next, fry for 2-3 minutes, until light golden brown, then flip and repeat for the other side.
If only one fit in your pan, repeat for the other slice then remove the toast and keep warm.
Meanwhile, add a little more butter to the pan if you need to and crack in the 2 eggs. Fry for 3-4 minutes, or until the yolk is cooked to your liking. (Cook one at a time if there is not enough room in your pan.)
How to assemble
Now all that’s left to do is assemble. Get two plates, place a slice of French toast on each one and top with the ham (2 x slices), cheese (2 x slices) and fried eggs. Crack over a little black pepper if you like, then serve immediately, and enjoy this marvellous masterpiece!
This is delicious. No fuss, no frills, just damn delicious. Simple is quite often best, and this recipe is a prime example. Food doesn’t have to be overly complex or take hours to prepare for it to taste amazing. It’s one of the things I love most about cooking and baking! Anyone can do it. So I hope you give this delightful recipe a go, I know I’ll be making it again!
