There’s no right or wrong here really. If you prick them, it allows some of the fat to escape easily. If you don’t, more fat stays inside, and it gives a little more flavour.
I tend not to bother pricking them. And they have never exploded for me, when following this recipe.

Air fryer conversion chart
Use this handy little chart for converting fan oven temperatures and times, to air fryer temperatures and times.
Fan Oven Temp | Air Fryer Temp | Fan Oven Time | Air Fryer Time |
160ºC / 320ºF | 140ºC / 284ºF | 15 mins | 12 mins |
170ºC / 338ºF | 150ºC / 302ºF | 20 mins | 16 mins |
180ºC / 356ºF | 160ºC / 320ºF | 25 mins | 20 mins |
190ºC / 374ºF | 170ºC / 338ºF | 30 mins | 24 mins |
200ºC / 392ºF | 180ºC / 356ºF | 35 mins | 28 mins |
Preparation
Look at the cooking instructions on your sausage packet. Then convert them using the air fryer conversion chart above.
For example, if the packet says to cook your sausages at 180ºC Fan (356ºF) for 20 minutes, you would convert this to 160ºC (320ºF) for 16 minutes in your air fryer.
Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to your converted temperature for 5 minutes.
Then place the sausages in the preheated drawer. Don’t let them touch each other, as they will cook more evenly this way.
Next, set the air fryer to your converted time and temperature. And hit start! Make sure to turn your sausages with tongs at least once during cooking.
Keep an eye on them towards the end. As all air fryers vary, and sausages do too!
How do you know when sausages are cooked?
The best way to check if a sausage is fully cooked, is to check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer. It should be between 70-75ºC (158-167ºF in US).
What to serve with air fryer sausages
You can always slice your air fryer sausages and throw them into a one pot cajun sausage pasta. Or team them up with some air fryer chips or sweet potato wedges.
Trying to be healthier? You might prefer them alongside a tomato salad or apple and beetroot salad instead.
