Most french toast recipes seem to be sweet in one way or another. Not this bad boy. This heavenly Ham Egg & Cheese French Toast blows it’s sweet counterparts right out of the park! Beautiful thick french toast topped with fine cooked ham, nutty emmental cheese & a perfect fried egg. There’s nothing about that last sentence that isn’t amazing. You need this in your life!
Here is what you will need to serve 2.
(Recipe adapted from Good Housekeeping)
For the French Toast
For the Toppings
First heat a large frying pan over a medium heat. Then in a shallow dish, beat together the egg, milk & salt.
Lay both slices of bread in the egg mixture and allow to soak for a few seconds then turn them over and repeat for the other side.
Then drop a knob of butter into the hot frying pan, swill around the pan until melted and add both slices of bread into the pan. (If both won’t fit, cook one at a time.)
Fry for 2-3 minutes until light golden brown, then flip and repeat for the other side.
If only one fit in your pan, repeat for the other slice then remove the toast and keep warm.
Meanwhile, add a little more butter to the pan if you need to and crack in the 2 eggs. Fry for 3-4 minutes or until the yolk is cooked to your liking. (Cook one at a time if there is not enough room in your pan.)
Now all that’s left to do is assemble. Get two plates, place a slice of french toast on each one and top with the ham, cheese & a fried egg. Scatter with a little black pepper if you like then serve immediately and enjoy this marvelous masterpiece!
This is delicious. No fuss, no frills, just damn delicious. Simple is quite often best and this recipe is a prime example. Food doesn’t have to be overly complex or take hours to prepare for it to taste amazing. It’s one of the things I love most about cooking and baking! Anyone can do it. So I hope you give this delightful recipe a go, I know I’ll be making it again!
I hope you enjoyed the post my lovelies, until next time.
