“Wow Emma, those Oven Baked Ikea Meatball Subs look amazing!” I hear you say… Yes, yes they are. Morpheus moment – what if I told you, that they’re insanely easy to make, you don’t even have to defrost the meatballs and your whole family will love them? Go on, take the red pill & make the most awesome meatball sub you’re ever going to eat!
Here is what you will need to make 4-6.
- Butter for greasing
- 16 – 24 Frozen Ikea Meatballs (4 per sub)
- 400g Jar of Bolognese Sauce
- 4 – 6 Finger Rolls
- 4 tbsp Butter, optional
- 150g Grated Mozzarella Cheese
Essential Equipment
- Large Ovenproof Dish
Baked Ikea Meatball Subs Recipe
Firstly, grease your dish and set to one side. Preheat your oven to 210°C/Fan 200°C.
Then pop the frozen meatballs into a saucepan along with the bolognese sauce. Bring to the boil, reduce the heat then simmer gently for about 10 minutes until the meatballs are heated through.
While the meatballs are cooking, slice the finger rolls in half but not all the way (if they aren’t already pre-done) and place them into the greased dish.
Melt the 4tbs of butter in a little ramekin in the microwave in 10 second intervals then brush the tops of the rolls with it. (This stage is entirely optional but I think it tastes wonderful!)
When the meatballs are heated through, place 4 into each roll. (Well spotted, the little one is for my 18 month old daughter – I don’t think she could eat a whole one yet!)
Then pour some bolognese sauce over to just about cover the meatballs. (Don’t overdo it!)
Next, top the meatballs with a generous helping of mozzarella cheese.
Pop into your preheated oven for approx 6-8 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and golden.
Then serve immediately.
Phwoaaar look at that! And I hate to say I told you so (who am I kidding, I love saying that!) but didn’t I tell you they were super easy to make? Those wonderful Ikea meatballs submerged in a comforting bolognese sauce, all hugged by bread with a blanket of mozzarella on top. It’s like comfort food heaven!
I hope you enjoyed the post my lovelies, until next time!
